Becoming a Freemason

"To Be One, Ask One"

For nearly three centuries, Freemasonry has required a man to take the first step himself. If you feel called to learn more, we'd be honored to hear from you.

Qualifications

The basic requirements.

Freemasonry is open to good men of every faith, race, and background. The qualifications are simple and timeless.

  • Be a man of at least 18 years of age
  • Believe in a Supreme Being
  • Be of good moral character and reputation
  • Reside within the jurisdiction for at least six months
  • Come of your own free will and accord

The Journey

From inquiry to initiation.

The path is intentional and personal. Here's what to expect.

  1. 01

    Request Information

Submit a brief inquiry through the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. A brother from the lodge nearest you will reach out personally.

  2. 02

    Meet the Brothers

Visit a stated dinner, ask any question you'd like, and get to know the men of the lodge — and let them get to know you.

  3. 03

    Submit a Petition

When you're ready, request a petition for membership. It will be presented at a stated meeting and a committee will visit with you.

  4. 04

    Receive the Degrees

After a favorable ballot, you will be initiated, passed, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason — joining a fraternity that spans the world.

Ready to Take the First Step?
